The Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) Library in Elkhart, Ind., is a pioneer in LEED green building design. Earning a LEED gold designation, the library is the first project on campus certified under the LEED rating system, the first LEED building in Elkhart or St. Joseph counties, and the first LEED-certified library COST PER SQ FT$146.00FEATURED IN2009 Architectural Portfolio Indiana.
Completion of this high-performance, sustainable library is a testament to AMBS’ commitment to environmental and fiscal stewardship. The overall design provides increased user comfort, lowers operating costs for HVAC and electrical systems, and uses materials that have less impact on natural resources. Energy efficiency and low environmental impact are achieved through the use of geothermal heating, maximized daylight, locally made materials, and furnishings with high recycled content and an emphasis on improved indoor air quality. The 37,500-square-foot library addition provides access to a specialized book collection, gallery space and bookstore.
