Suncoast Polytechnical High School establishes a new, iconic image for the career-education campus and the community. The design is organized using the small learning communities concept and enables a seamless integration of core curriculum subjects and career technical education into one building. The flexible spaces accommodate group and CAPACITY600COST PER SQ FT$224.89FEATURED IN2009 Architectural Portfolio learning styles and are adaptable for changes in curriculum. The building is a technology-rich environment that is both wired and wireless for students, faculty and visitors.
An important principle in the design of the high school was sustainability. The orientation of the school takes advantage of maximum natural light in all instructional and circulation spaces, which promotes a better learning environment for students. In addition, the project included energy-efficient mechanical systems and lighting systems with daylight sensors, eco-friendly materials and the preservation of mature trees on site.
