Relocating and building a new elementary to replace an outdated facility were the primary challenges involved in this project. The school was built near to the existing middle school to share both outdoor athletic fields and the new school’s gymnasium. The facility was designed to accommodate 450 students in grades K to 5 with room to expand as the neighborhood grows COST PER SQ FT$143.00FEATURED IN2009 Architectural Portfolio the 14-acre site. The building itself is laid out with separate wings for kindergarten/first grade, second/third grades and fourth/fifth grades.
Incorporated into the design of the school: electronic security systems; high-efficiency geothermal HVAC systems (300 vertical wells); and a recessed gymnasium with direct access to the cafeteria and separated by folding partitions that provide a performance area. Natural lighting is provided to all occupied spaces. Small-group rooms are provided in the second/third-grade and fourth/fifth-grade wings.
The new campus provides expanded recreational areas, as well as separate entrances for deliveries, buses and the general public.
