Hillsboro R-III School District is situated in a rural community south of St. Louis. The site development proved to be the most significant challenge—converting the rocky terrain into a site for a new high school athletic complex.
A new ticket booth has covered access that controls and directs the public into the complex. The entrance also adapts to a FEATURED IN2008 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYSpecialized change in elevation by the use of grand stairs and an accessible ramp.
The facility includes an eight-lane polyurethane running track with space for the appropriate field events. The track and baseball field are lighted for evening events.
The athletic field includes new synthetic turf, a press box and grandstands with the capacity for 1,445.
The baseball field was constructed with natural grass and includes an underground sprinkler system, two warmup cages with dugouts and double batting cages.
The concession/restroom facility is situated centrally and includes concession windows with storage and a complete dishwashing area.
The facility master plan envisions a future softball field and training/weightroom facility.
