The university’s College of Education was operating out of several buildings. The challenge was to provide a center that brought the programs and functions together in one state-of-the-art facility. Moreover, it was important to create a home that was large enough to house the entire college while remaining architecturally pleasing, environmentally smart and COST PER SQ FT$307.00FEATURED IN2008 Architectural Portfolio efficient.
Despite being situated in desert terrain, most of the campus is blanketed by lush green lawns and shrubs in a beautiful park-like setting. As a means of expanding sustainable site concepts, the landscaping of the new College of Education building features lavenders and other perennial flora that promote the region’s natural desert habitat.
The 130,000-square-foot, three-story structure also expresses the College of Education’s presence uniquely, energizes the university, and provides a new home to future educators.
The College of Education building is the place where brilliant minds are equipped to educate the leaders of tomorrow—the place where students become teachers.
