The facility provides students with cutting-edge research technologies, including comprehensive databases, audiovisual equipment, interactive whiteboards and wireless capabilities.
The second floor is home to the academy’s new library. A large, arched entry provides a panoramic view of the northeast. The library’s interior features exposed, heavy-timber trusses, decorative columns and cathedral ceilings. The custom red-oak millwork provides a warm and inviting collegiate ambience. Windows were placed strategically to provide natural light and framed views. Library stack areas are naturally lighted by windows at the ends of each aisle. Students take advantage of the spectacular peaceful views of the surrounding mountains and Long Lake.
The library’s openness created from the vaulted ceilings and spacious rooms helps provide a warm atmosphere. Reading and writing labs are adjacent to the library to give students access to reference materials and technology. Transparency is achieved intentionally through glazing to allow visual control of the reading and writing labs, and the library from the librarian’s office. The new library has various-sized study spaces to promote group interaction.
