The community of Almont is graced with many fine examples of Victorian architecture. The design of Orchard Primary mirrors this influence with its pitched roof, towered entrance and oversized bay window flanking the media center, providing natural light to the interior.
The media center/computer lab is the hub of the design, while the two wings contribute a total of CAPACITY825COST PER SQ FT$91.14FEATURED IN1999 Architectural Portfolio classrooms, three kindergarten rooms and a latchkey room. Several rooms are multifunctional, including the divisible cafeteria/gym, which fronts a raised performance platform that doubles as a music classroom.The scale of the school reflects its users, from the height of the exterior window sills to the furniture in the computer lab.
The interior spaces come alive with floor-to-ceiling crayon shapes in various shades of purple, turquoise and peach. The crayons designate the different corridors, as well as provide a playful shroud to the support beams of the media center. Throughout the hallways, clouds of primary shapes float overhead, repeating the color scheme.
