The design solution for this project involved working with the natural topography to maximize site efficiency and minimize environmental impact. The result is a split-level facility with classrooms and administration on one level, and assembly spaces on another level with separate entrances and parking. The gymnasium was designed to seat 2,300 spectators with a COST PER SQ FT$104.30FEATURED IN2008 Educational InteriorsINTERIOR CATEGORYPhysical-Education Facilities/Recreation Centers running track above that connects the mezzanine to the upper level of the school. Six basketball goals and a vertical divider curtain allow for multiple classes to use the gymnasium simultaneously. The school colors, silver and blue, are seen in the motorized bleachers and painted accent stripes.
Locker rooms for physical-education classes and varsity sports are situated off the gymnasium floor, along with the weightroom and restrooms. Clerestory windows with translucent panels allow plenty of natural light with no glare. The ductwork is fabric and runs just below the exposed structure, which is painted white to brighten the entire space. Offices for the athletic department are on the mezzanine level, and overlook the running track and gymnasium.
