Twenty years of growth at Duquesne University made the athletic training facilities and coaches’ offices tired and crowded.
A decision was made to renovate the underutilized racquetball courts and, by inserting a mezzanine level, create additional floor space within the existing structure. The area has views to an outdoor practice area, providing daylight for the offices. In addition, a welcoming reception area, conference room and coaches’ locker areas were provided.
On the second level, a new weight-training area for Duquesne athletes was developed with rubber flooring, splashes of invigorating color and new high-tech equipment.
Adjacent to this area, the team trainers have new wet and dry therapy areas, equipment storage, workout areas, a private exam room and much-improved offices. The recruitment area sports a massive colonnade that shelters comfortable seating. Just outside the recruitment center, a lounge is situated conveniently to provide catered food service for events, as well as casual seating between workouts.
