Eastern Arizona College, High Tech Center

Thatcher, Arizona

The High Tech Center was designed to consolidate computer classrooms, faculty offices and computer support services into one central location using an existing administration building and a new 2,500-square-foot addition. Classroom capacity is provided to accommodate 132 students in computer labs and an additional 24 students in the computer commons.

An outdoor patio area also was remodeled to provide an alternative environment using wireless technology for 24 students.

Building costs were controlled by isolating a high-tech image within the computer commons/public area and then transitioning to a more functional image of lab and staff spaces.

At the exterior, a design was developed to respect the existing campus vocabulary of concrete, brick, stucco, arches and metal roofs, but also to introduce a new aesthetic that met regional sustainability issues and the college’s desires to blend into the existing campus.
