The University of Missouri—St. Louis wanted a residence hall that would enhance the student-life experience, house students for years to come, and build the residential component for students on campus. The design meets the privacy needs of the students, and promotes community and connection to the university.
The new, six-story residence hall provides 416 student CAPACITY416COST PER SQ FT$98.62FEATURED IN2007 Architectural Portfolio arranged in four-bedroom suites and 12 resident-assistant rooms. Other amenities include a director’s apartment and assistant director’s apartment, music rooms, laundry facilities, student lounges, study spaces, an exhibition kitchen and dining, entertainment space, exercise space and a food emporium.
The structural system, because of height, speed of construction and durability, is of composite design supported on structural-steel metal channels. A four-pipe fan coil unit is included for individual control of each of the suites. The facility is clad in brick, limestone and stucco to blend with the historical portion of the campus where it is situated.
