The Lawson Computer Science Building is a showcase of technology for Purdue University. The building data center is housed in a glass-fronted room open to a two-story meetingplace commons. This juxtaposition of the electronic data hub and the human interactive hub of the building is intentional and thematic throughout the building. The labs are equipped with ASSOCIATED FIRMH.M. Casual spaces are provided in the building designed for spontaneous group collaboration, brainstorming and information sharing. Technology and building design go hand-in-hand to create a “living” learning environment.
The building is equipped with more than 4,000 feet of fiber-optic cable, wireless network access throughout the building and a 1,000-square-foot data center. The graphic and visualization lab has special architectural features built in with open ceilings and vertical wall grids to allow for easy manipulation of lighting equipment, screens and more to accommodate creation of virtual special simulation. This building is at the peak of the technological curve with the ability to adapt easily for changes that lie ahead.
