This recent addition to Oakland Community College’s Levinson Hall provides new space for nursing and allied-health programs, and unifies all campus science programs into a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of OCC’s Highland Lakes Campus.
The 39,200-square-foot, two-story addition provides instructional space for the dental program, including a dental clinic that COST PER SQ FT$219.00FEATURED IN2007 Architectural Portfolio the surrounding community, as well as new spaces for nursing and physician’s-assistant programs. Included are patient-care mockups, classrooms and offices to facilitate interaction among students and faculty.
The addition is linked to the existing science building with a two-story atrium that provides interconnection between new and existing instructional spaces, and encloses existing campus pathways.
The building’s south facade is brick-clad with punch-through windows and metal sunshade devices to reduce heat gain in summer months. The white metal and glass-clad north facade allows light to penetrate an east-west corridor, preserving a campus pathway and allowing students and faculty views to the outside from corridor areas.
