The new community college bookstore reinforces the central campus quadrangle, which previously was defined by temporary facilities and pedestrian conflicts with on-site service vehicles. The new building defines the north side of the quad, and relegates loading for the new bookstore and adjacent student center to a new dock area tucked away from campus pathways.
The COST PER SQ FT$474.00FEATURED IN2007 Architectural Portfolio offers students a cafe, convenience store and a sheltered area to queue during textbook buyback. Its glass entry tower brings daylight to the facility and creates a needed campus icon. The interior of the building takes advantage of daylighting and state-of-the-art dimming technology. Its north-facing curtainwall allows for diffused light year-round, and a series of semi-transparent, insulated skylights allows for energy-saving daylight overhead, creating a welcoming interior space. In addition, the building is engineered to allow for future expansion with its existing footprint by adding a future mezzanine level.
