Challenged with a very limited budget, East Clinton School District still retained a bright vision for the future of its students. This vision included a media center that would provide information and resources, and an inviting space to enjoy easy reading and relaxation. The second-floor media center features a tower that serves as a reading nook and first-floor main entry. Lined with upholstered seating and high windows, the “cozy tower” is flooded with natural light and serves as a quiet retreat for students. The 58-foot spire-topped tower evokes architectural characteristics reminiscent of rural farmhouse watchtowers.
An adjacent computer lab can be used for group teaching or independent research. Single-study stations interspersed throughout the reading room have the capability for laptops or additional computers. There is a conference room, office area, and combined A/V storage and technology room arranged for the possibility of a future centralized media-retrieval system. A centrally located circulation desk allows easy viewing into all spaces.
