The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts is an alliance among the five arts units within the University of Houston’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, including the Schools of Art and Theater; Blaffer Gallery; the Art Museum; the Creative Writing Program; and the Moores School of Music. The architect designed the new front lobby and second story at the existing Lyndall Wortham Theater. The expansion and renovation project includes a stylish theater lobby and construction of a new box office and alternate lobby for ticket buyers. Also, a second-story addition provides essential large rehearsal spaces, classrooms and an administrative office suite.

Academic programs now animate the quadrangle by revealing glimpses of activity through the new frosted floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Furthermore, the design’s bold architectural forms visually integrate the school of theater with its Center for the Arts neighbors in the fine-arts quadrangle.
