Wayzata High School is dedicated to preparing a community of learners to live compassionately, challenge the unknown, know the past and create the future. The steering committee developed consensus for the direction of this new high school, which was designed to enhance educational delivery, including these themes from the vision statement: ASSOCIATED FIRM CAPACITY1,200COST PER SQ FT$88.00FEATURED IN1999 Educational InteriorsINTERIOR CATEGORYClassrooms atmosphere, flexibility, focus on quality, sense of community, maintain naturalness, pragmatics.
The real-life application of these themes becomes evident when breaking down the large school into a smaller, human scale, while encouraging the best practices for lifelong learning with a focus on academic excellence. Spatial relationships enhance learning environments and create opportunities for students, staff and the community. Creating smaller communities of students is necessary to impart a sense of belonging and security.
Eight 400-student houses exist, each with flexible classroom and lab clusters to deliver departmental, interdisciplinary and theme instruction. Students are able to set goals and challenge themselves as they pursue their personal plan for progress.
Educational programs for students of the 21st century also require adaptability—flexible classroom clusters possess this ability to evolve with changes in methods of delivery.
