At nearly 110,000 square feet, the Recreation Center and The Arthur L. and Maxine Sheets Rybolt Sport Sciences Center sits naturally amongst adjacent buildings. A 60-foot-high atrium showcases the design’s emphasis on transparency. The open layout gives visitors an immediate understanding of the building’s amenities. The main gym, climbing wall, pool, COST PER SQ FT$166.67FEATURED IN2006 Architectural Portfolio center, game room and overhead jogging track are all visible from the atrium. The juice bar and lounge spaces are conducive to informal student gatherings.
The centralized control desk provides excellent student access and increased building security. Staff members can monitor the main entry, locker rooms, and progression of students and guests to other areas.
The building offers state-of-the-art training and competition facilities, and modern recreation amenities, including a 4,500-square-foot athletic training facility; a 25-yard, eight-lane competition pool with a 3-meter diving well and whirlpool; two racquetball courts; aerobics; a golf simulator; table games; and locker rooms for the general population, varsity teams and faculty/staff.
The building features an academic setting as well, housing the Department of Sport Sciences, faculty offices, meeting spaces and classrooms.
