Commissioned to design the new Barry University Student Union, the architect began by considering the various user groups, as well as the myriad functions the building needed to support.
Students and staff were involved in its design inception and service-
delivery orientation. The 75,000 square feet of building space can be divided and applied to specific COST PER SQ FT$209.33FEATURED IN2006 Architectural Portfolio groups; for example, 30,000 square feet are designated to accommodate student organizations, support services and administrative office areas, and dining facilities and food preparation are allotted 15,000 square feet in which to function. Student fitness and game rooms, the campus pub, event room, and retail and bookstore operations are accounted for as well.
Configured as a composite two- and three-story structure, Barry University Student Union acts as the hub of campus and provides a successful space in which students can have fun, congregate and find support for their academic pursuits.
