The design team provided connectivity to the existing plazas. Materials and muted desert colors that complement the campus while setting the tone for future expansion and maintenance were used.

The second challenge was to create a sense of identity and community for health sciences. A covered walkway connects the buildings in the Health Sciences Plaza. This walkway was incorporated into the building lobby to reinforce unity with the plaza. A hierarchy of public outdoor and indoor spaces was developed.

The final challenge was to create a regionally appropriate building. To do this, the building was oriented to respect climate conditions. A solar-voltaic shade structure is planned for future installation.
