The University Center is the main campus dining area; therefore, the design and construction schedule was very important.
Through the use of original pieces and the incorporation of contemporary materials, the design created neighborhoods and food venues that make the space a campus attraction. Students find the new areas exciting and active. The space also offers booths and quiet corners for study or intimate conversations. The former building corridor now has a sidewalk feel, inviting students into their own dining experience.
The University Center renovation posed many site issues, including underground utilities undetected because of the age of the campus; the location of the site in the middle of campus; and the schedule—the renovation portion of the project needed to be finished within the six weeks of summer break.
The addition to the University Center seamlessly ties the three different sections of the building, all built within 30 years of each other, into one cohesive design.
