The Academy of Information Technology and Engineering (AITE) is the first Connecticut school of its kind for students interested in all aspects of technology and fundamentals of architecture engineering.
The primary architectural goal was to create a communal feel to the project similar to the Piazza through the use of open courts, various transparencies through CAPACITY650COST PER SQ FT$291.00FEATURED IN2005 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYWork in Progress and classrooms, and volumetric definition and expression of the main spaces. The building’s exterior dynamically expresses the various functions housed within, which creates a sculpture that responds to the nature of art and engineering.
The building will employ advanced energy-conservation systems, such as solar orientation, to capture light and reduce heat gain, sunshading screens, an ice-storage cooling system and daylighting control of artificial illumination. The IT network infrastructure is composed of the latest wireless technology.
The advanced material selections are ground-face single wythe concrete insulated block, high-performance glass and an aluminum curtainwall system, insulated metal panels and a translucent dome with a 60-foot diameter.
