Situated on a 17-acre site, the new Chicopee High School houses 1,300 students in grades 9 to 12, and consists of a four-story classroom wing and a one-story physical-education/performance/community wing.
The classroom wing offers 52 general teaching spaces and 64 specialized teaching spaces with centralized administration, guidance, CAPACITY1,313COST PER SQ FT$168.00FEATURED IN2005 Architectural Portfolio2006 Educational Interiors clinic and special-needs offices. The design also includes a 600-seat auditorium, as well as band, choral and practice space. The community wing includes the gymnasium, fitness, aerobics-physical therapy, and a six-lane, 25-year natatorium.
A metric track and practice fields (artificial turf) are onsite. Technology services are provided throughout the facility and are adaptable to future enhancements.
The new Chicopee High School advances the city’s educational mission by supporting modern, effective instruction and administration in a cost-effective, easily maintained facility. It strengthens Chicopee by enhancing educational quality, a fundamental ingredient in population retention and a healthy tax base. The design renews existing tradition and promises promotion of academic leadership far into the 21st century.
