Administrators and architects collaborated on curriculum-delivery concepts and development of a program for a comprehensive new high school. At design sessions, staff members, teachers, students, parents, consultants and construction professionals provided input.
The school was designed to be aesthetically compatible with high-tech corporate neighbors. Clear sightlines in corridors provide added safety features. Interior courtyards provide secure learning environments. Natural light is provided in 90 percent of the teaching spaces.
The new facility has a highly developed science department, as well as a 1,000-seat auditorium, black-box theater and fine-arts department.
Band uniform storage doubles as acoustical absorption. The media center and computer labs are easily accessible from classrooms. Student relations and safety are enhanced by placing assistant principals and counselors in classroom wings.
Stormwater-detention ponds provide for future irrigation.
