Constantine, Mich., has a new, long-awaited high school designed to accommodate 550 students.
The premise of the building came from within the community architecture. The exterior design of the new school is sensitive to its architectural heritage, and is intended to reflect and integrate with the tradition of the community. Extensive sitework included separate bus CAPACITY550COST PER SQ FT$110.62FEATURED IN2005 Architectural Portfolio automobile traffic loops. Plans for future construction were taken into consideration in the placement of the new high school.
The new school features a unique, large-group instruction and assembly space. It is joined with a flexible cafeteria space with eating for 280 students. During school hours, the large-group instruction space accommodates 150 with fixed theater seats. For larger events, a retractable seating system extends into the adjacent dining space, increasing the seating capacity to 600. The school also boasts a 1,500-seat gymnasium and large, well-equipped weight fitness and wrestling areas.
