Jesusa Vizcarrondo Middle School is one of the educational facilities constructed under the “School Boom 2000” program. It serves the community of Loiza, Puerto Rico, 20 miles outside San Juan.
The school campus is situated on 5.6 acres of property and consists of 43 classrooms, a basketball court/gymnasium, library, community meeting room, cafeteria, interior CAPACITY800COST PER SQ FT$166.50FEATURED IN2005 Architectural Portfolio and other support facilities. Special classrooms include computer, science and language laboratories, home-economics and industrial-arts classrooms, as well as an assembly. A total of 800 students in grades 7, 8 and 9 are served in this facility.
Jesusa Vizcarrondo Middle School was designed as a high-quality educational facility that uses architectural design innovation and non-traditional, dynamic forms such as circles, vaults and other curved shapes to create an impact in the community. It was designed with a tropical layout that uses an interior patio to provide cross-ventilation throughout the school’s facilities.
The structure is concrete masonry with red, corrugated metal-vaulted roofs used in specialty areas such as the main entrance, library, administration, gymnasium and assembly.
