This sophisticated college classroom building expresses timeless design. It allows technology to evolve and naturally express itself within the building. Selected materials communicate quality, durability and beauty; and ultimately, express the high-tech nature of the building. The building’s lobby is an extension of the overall pedestrian spine and helps form a gateway into the campus.
A common-sense approach was used to produce an energy-efficient, earth-friendly facility that is LEED-certified and meets the criteria of an Energy Star building. This is the first LEED-registered building in Nevada that has completed construction. It provides an expandable central plant and extremely efficient HVAC component. Appropriate lighting systems are used, integrating daylighting throughout. In addition, the design allows for future use of solar voltaic.
The Telecommunications Building includes an exhibit space; a lecture hall; general, computer and editing classrooms; break areas; administrative offices; television-production studio facilities; studio cyclorama facilities; a tape-storage library; resource library; and broadcast satellite master-control area.
