In the summer of 2003, the University of Houston decided to upgrade classrooms on the main campus. This was done to match the other, newer campuses.

The main campus of the University of Houston is the oldest and has the largest population of students. Upgrading the classroom facilities was considered a mandatory project. Because the University of Houston is a Tier One institution, administrators felt the classrooms should reflect as such.

To upgrade the older classrooms to the expectations of a Tier One institution, the University of Houston spent almost $1 million per building.
