Indiana’s first new Catholic high school in more than 30 years, Blessed Theodore Guerin, reflects the central role that faith can play in education. A spacious chapel, punctuated by a tall tower adorned with a cross and stained-glass skylight, serves as the visual and programmatic heart of the building.
The placement of the chapel at the main entrance promotes COST PER SQ FT$93.00FEATURED IN2005 Educational Interiors and a sense of community. The space seats 225 and is supported by the sacristy, confessionals and storage. Mass is held every weekday and is open to students and parishioners. The chapel also can be isolated from the rest of the building for after-hours use.
Ground-face block and warm interior colors create an environment suited for praise or quiet reflection. Twelve stained-glass windows bearing the images of American saints run the length of the front wall. A large white overhang acts as a sound deflector and symbolizes the Holy Spirit.
The ceiling above is painted black, highlighting the overhang’s dove-like shape and creating the illusion that it is suspended above the congregation.
