Social work and child-development research also are conducted at the center.
In its previous location in the densely populated Longwood Medical area, the center had limited space for its operations. To address this concern, the organization purchased and renovated an existing building on an open hilltop site to serve as its new home in Boston.
The facility benefits from interior renovations, as well as an 11,000-square-foot multipurpose room addition. The interior design provides a calming environment through the use of soft colors, abundant natural daylight and outdoor views.
The addition makes use of the steep hillside site as a partial subterranean structure, while still maximizing natural light through its translucent wall panels.
