Because of increasing enrollment, it was necessary to expand elementary school space in Falmouth Village. The Mullen School is the dominant civil building in Falmouth and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The project consisted of renovations and an addition to the existing 30,800-square-foot 1931 Mullen School to provide a new school facility of ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCAPACITY500COST PER SQ FT$175.00FEATURED IN2004 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYRenovation 80,000 square feet.

The existing Hall Elementary School building, which shares the same 6.6-acre site, was unsuitable for continued use as a school facility and was demolished.

The renovated building houses 500 students in pre-kindergarten to fourth grade. In addition to historical renovation, accessibility and building-code improvements, the project provides all new building systems to the Mullen School. The addition includes 30,000 square feet of new classroom space and a new gymnasium/cafeteria wing that is shared with the community.

Sitework includes relocation of an adjacent public way, a new pedestrian/bike path, redevelopment of parking areas, new landscaping, site amenities and new, fully accessible building entrances.
