Elms Elementary School is a 960-student facility for pre-K to grade 5 that will meet the community’s needs for many years. The new two-story school features a playful entry reminiscent of a clock tower, and provides many unique and vibrant learning spaces, including a two-level media center, a cafetorium, 39 classrooms, a computer room and a discovery science room. The facility was designed around a protected courtyard, providing natural lighting in all areas of the school and creating an exterior living classroom.
To foster and encourage community use, the plan was organized to allow for controlled, secure access to the cafeteria, gymnasium and support facilities with ready access to the academic side of the school.
The school maximizes and minimizes the effect of solar orientation and uses a geothermal system for heating and cooling.
