The 90,000-square-foot expansion of the former University Center provides for a two-story Barnes & Noble bookstore, and relocation of the student union administration and student government offices. Also included in Phase I are a bistro, a small 100-seat theater, a retail corridor and a new gathering pavilion.

Two new outdoor sculptures were commissioned as a part of this project; “Red Reader” by local artist Terry Allen and “The Bookman” by Tom Otterness are both now a part of the university’s public art collection.

The 80,000-square-foot Phase II interior renovation of the north and east interior spaces will include a new food court, a relocated and expanded dining room, and a renovated production/catering kitchen. Phase II is scheduled for completion in October 2004.
