The Park City Elementary School media center is situated at the school’s entry and sets the tone for the remainder of the addition. Administrators and faculty wanted a modern, yet warm and inviting center that would excite students, and encourage reading and computer usage. Pillars of books mark the entrance to a reading nook, which was created for group readings or storytelling. Students also can just lounge on the nook’s floor or steps to read. The titles displayed on the pillars are favorite books chosen by the students.
Students can use the media center’s bank of computers for research, to do homework, or to play learning games individually or with each other. The media center is a flexible space that can be used as reference, reading and instructional space. The staff work areas are constructed with glass walls, allowing for constant viewing of the media center.
