The architect’s challenge was to create a sense of school pride with this addition to an existing elementary school. The school mascot, the black knight, would be used to establish school pride by creating an atmosphere where imagination and educational experiences could flourish.

The main student entry is embellished as the portal to the castle, the kingdom of knowledge and education. Brightly colored canopies, flags and a tree sentry flank the castle grounds, while a pathway of river-washed stones against a meadow of green grass greets the students. The corridors, cafeteria and media center are designed and detailed to complement this theme.
Color geometric patterns are embedded in the floor tiles throughout. The tiles not only act as a playful punctuation, but also provide specific classroom denotations in the kingdom of knowledge and education through color coordination.
