West Contra Costa Unified School District recently passed two school bonds totaling more than $900 million to modernize, renovate and build new K-12 schools. The landscape architect was selected to oversee a portion of the bond program that will be used for sitework and outdoor learning environments for the 39 elementary schools in the district. The landscape architect has developed schematic site design and master plans for each location, coordinating with the administration, education staff, maintenance staff, site councils and neighborhood communities. Specifications for the outdoor learning environment that maximize the program value of outdoor areas were developed. Each master plan includes outdoor multipurpose classrooms, garden area classrooms, natural area classrooms and varied play areas.
