A new 180,000-square-foot School of Management building was budgeted for the University of Texas at Dallas, but school administrators knew they needed a larger facility. The architects devised a cost-saving strategy that would allow a much larger structure on the same budget.
The 204,000-square-foot building stands as a gateway to the UTD campus and features 29 COST PER SQ FT$151.96FEATURED IN2003 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYWork in Progress designed to facilitate the teamwork approach favored in business education. The building features a separate executive-education center, in addition to a 350-seat auditorium. The building will be outfitted with wireless communications links, making it even more convenient for students and faculty to access important resources.
Among the facility’s most distinctive architectural elements are a cylindrical atrium and a dining area with a circular skylight that uses reflective light to subtly and elegantly brighten the center of this space.
