The Community College of Southern Nevada Telecommunications Building is a sophisticated college classroom building expressing timeless design. It is designed to allow technology to evolve and express itself naturally within the building. Building materials express the timeless quality of durable, beautiful and technologically appropriate systems. Simultaneously, the COST PER SQ FT$166.00FEATURED IN2003 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYWork in Progress express the building’s high-tech nature. The lobby design relates to the adjacent central control room, an exhibit expressing the technology distribution throughout the building and existing campus facilities.
The facility will be on the college’s Cheyenne Campus in northern Las Vegas. The two-story building is situated to form a pedestrian gateway entrance to the campus. A bridge to the existing technology building reinforces this notion. Previously developed master-plan concepts defining a pedestrian campus with exterior parking are honored.
The design will produce an energy-efficient facility that will be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified and meets the criteria of an “Energy Star” building.
The building includes general classrooms, computer classrooms, a lecture hall, administrative offices, student and staff break areas, exhibit space, television-production studio facilities, studio cyclorama facilities, editing classrooms and suites, a tape-storage library, a resource library and a broadcast satellite master-control area. Rooftop facilities are planned for antennas and other technology demonstrations.
