This project is the realization of extensive renovations and additions to a 25-year-old elementary school.

The work involved 41,000 square feet of additions including two classroom “clusters” for kindergarten and first grade, music rooms, and a multipurpose activity room with adjoining stage to accommodate physical-education classes and student presentations.

This work occurred following completion of the classroom additions, which served as swing space during the renovation.

The original building’s interior was reconfigured extensively to create larger, more functional classrooms. “Classroom clusters” of seven rooms arranged around a “commons” area facilitate team-teaching and the sharing of resources in a quiet, contained environment.

The project’s design presented a unique opportunity to wrap the original school and create the illusion that the school was completely rebuilt. This improves the school’s visual element and creates a more exciting learning environment.
