Florida International University, Management and Advanced Research Center

Miami, Florida

The new Florida International University’s Management and Advanced Research Center (MARC) is an important addition to the university’s physical and cultural environment. Situated on a significant site, the building has the flexibility to accommodate different users as building occupancy changes over time.

The MARC consists of a five-story facility that includes the ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCOST PER SQ FT$149.00FEATURED IN2003 Architectural Portfolio Language Institute, research support offices and Information Resource Management. The MARC contains classrooms, meeting/conference spaces, faculty and staff offices, and support spaces.

The MARC has a large conference center with controls for lighting, audiovisual projection and in-floor power for personal laptops. Separated from the main building, this conference center can be used without disrupting day-to-day classroom use.

The case study rooms allow for highly focused meetings within an intimate setting. A central podium controls all room functions. Split-projection screens on either side of large chalkboards allow visual presentations with simultaneous graphic notations. Adjacent to these rooms are smaller rooms with a food-preparation area used for breakout sessions.
