The new Florida International University’s Management and Advanced Research Center (MARC) is an important addition to the university’s physical and cultural environment. Situated on a significant site, the building has the flexibility to accommodate different users as building occupancy changes over time.
The MARC consists of a five-story facility that includes the COST PER SQ FT$149.00FEATURED IN2003 Architectural Portfolio Language Institute, research support offices and Information Resource Management. The MARC contains classrooms, meeting/conference spaces, faculty and staff offices, and support spaces.
The MARC has a large conference center with controls for lighting, audiovisual projection and in-floor power for personal laptops. Separated from the main building, this conference center can be used without disrupting day-to-day classroom use.
The case study rooms allow for highly focused meetings within an intimate setting. A central podium controls all room functions. Split-projection screens on either side of large chalkboards allow visual presentations with simultaneous graphic notations. Adjacent to these rooms are smaller rooms with a food-preparation area used for breakout sessions.
