Cedarburg School District’s new athletic facility includes an eight-lane natatorium, a fieldhouse and an atrium lobby. The addition to and renovation of the natatorium provided the school district with competition-type diving and starting blocks. A recent performing-arts center addition is to the north of the building, and the new athletic facility provides a prominent CAPACITY1,170COST PER SQ FT$82.00FEATURED IN2003 Architectural Portfolio at the school’s southern end.
Tilt-up precast panels with brick infill complement the clean, modern vocabulary of the original building, and allowed for rapid assembly on a rigorous construction schedule and tight budget. Translucent panels illuminate the pool and entrance during the day and provide visual impact during evening functions. The glass atrium provides pre- and post-function space and becomes the embodiment of the community’s role in the life of the school and its students.
The school also needed to expand its science department. This was accomplished by adding a second story onto the existing science department. The addition provides ADA accessibility to the remainder of the second floor. Other renovations took place throughout the building to enhance the appearance and provide a cohesive look.
