As a replacement facility for the 1920s Coopers Elementary School, this building was constructed within 30 feet of the existing school, which remained in operation during construction. The existing gymnasium and cafeteria remained in their original locations, and the new facility was designed around the existing playground, parking lots and traffic circulation. The new CAPACITY600COST PER SQ FT$91.66FEATURED IN2003 Architectural Portfolio houses administrative offices, a media center, teacher work rooms, resource classrooms, a music room and regular teaching classrooms for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
The building is divided into four wings, three of which house age-level classes. Administrative offices and a media center occupy the fourth wing. The kindergarten and first-grade classrooms open directly to the outside, and all classrooms are outfitted with four student computer workstations and one teacher workstation. Each station is networked to a main technology hub in the media center.
