The main entrance is a welcome beacon to all who pass through its doors. The nautical color scheme is evident as visitors pass under the lighthouse into the main lobby. A navigational compass has been integrated into the floor tile. It is reminiscent of sea travelers and is a teaching element for students.

The interior navy-based color scheme shows the classic ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCAPACITY500COST PER SQ FT$109.15FEATURED IN2003 Architectural Portfolio of nautical flags. Room signage is influenced by the idea of flags. Green, the school’s color, has been used as an accent throughout. Elements such as undulating ceilings and carpet patterns reflect wave ripples, and some of the other floor patterns remind visitors of walks on the shore with nostalgic lighthouses in the distance.

The media center is the learning hub, conveniently situated for all students and staff. Visible from the front of the building, it is the anchor of education. The ceiling in this space is designed to reflect a ship’s wheel, which also is the Laker emblem.

The building’s design concept joins the classroom wings together at the shared common spaces, which includes the gymnasium and the media center. This concept reflects the district’s makeup, integrating three communities into one facility.
