Bednarcik Junior High School

Oswego, Illinois

This school originally had a 2½-story Learning Resource Center in the center of the academic wing. A school board member suggested raising the center to the second level and putting a multipurpose room beneath it to meet a need for flexible space. Movable partitions can divide the space in half or quarters, allowing it to be used for science fairs, as two lecture halls, ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCOST PER SQ FT$95.51FEATURED IN2003 Educational InteriorsINTERIOR CATEGORYMultipurpose Rooms as four classrooms to house another 100 students.

The cafetorium, a classic application, can be locked off from the rest of the school during off hours, providing security during community use. It has its own restrooms and entryway. During dining hours, students enter at one end of the room and depart at the other. Band and chorus practice rooms are behind the stage, adjacent to two corridors leading from the cafetorium. A design feature has corridors falling off-grade 30 inches, allowing stage access without ramps or lifts.
