The library was designed to serve as the central focus of the new Cape Central High School’s academic area. The two-story, atrium-style space also allows the school district to facilitate various community functions. Passing through an angled, standard-height entry, flanked by lighted display cases, students arrive in the larger volume of the library amidst perimeter shelving, a coffee bar and a computer lab area. The central circular reference desk serves to provide both visual control and an easily accessible information node. A clerestory that runs along the tops of both long walls permits natural light to reach adjacent classrooms through high, narrow bands of windows.
Complete with the latest technology, the Cape Central High School library embodies the district’s philosophy of community involvement and pride, while providing a comfortable place that offers numerous avenues of learning for every patron.
