Purdue University’s All American Dining Room serves as the official athletic training table for all Purdue athletes. This 150-seat facility also was designed to be used as a media room for coaches’ shows on local television and radio stations. The dining room is situated in the basement of the gutted and renovated Cary Quadrangle Residence Hall Northeast and is part of ASSOCIATED FIRMRowland DesignCOST PER SQ FT$149.50CITATIONBronze CitationFEATURED IN2003 Educational InteriorsINTERIOR CATEGORYCafeterias/Food-Service Areas phased renovation plan for the all-male residence hall, which was built in 1940.
Because the original building had antiquated heating and ventilation systems and no air conditioning, contemporary HVAC systems were installed. An innovative three-dimensional ceiling treatment was incorporated to give the room the appearance of a much larger space.
In an effort to increase the facility’s durability, thin-coat plaster on impact-resistant gypsum board was used. The servery area was furnished with stainless-steel serving tables with surfaces designed to look like picnic tables. The serving tables are mobile, allowing them to be moved into the dining room area for special events.
