The new facility will house a polytechnic Iinstitute at Southeast Missouri State University. The proposed building will serve as a statewide model of cooperation between area vocational technical schools, community colleges and a university to meet the goals of the state plan for postsecondary vocational technical education.

The Department of Industrial Technology program currently serves nearly 200 majors in the latest in manufacturing high-technologies. These technologies include computer-aided design (CAD), robotics, automatic identification, computer numerical control, programmable logic control, materials testing, statistical process control and computer integrated manufacturing.
The building will be located adjacent to the campus science quadrangle with a view of the Mississippi River. The architectural design goal is to create a unique appearance, which exemplifies the high-tech curriculum to be offered in the proposed building.
