The College Union commands a view of Oregon’s largest lake and the Cascade Mountains, but suffers from lack of image, inefficient layouts and a narrow design. The school wanted to alleviate the facility’s shortcomings while capitalizing on the location strengths.
The resulting expansion/renovation will reapportion space to focus on creating a strong core for the COST PER SQ FT$73.00FEATURED IN2002 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYWork in Progress and institution. Featured will be an expanded and relocated bookstore, food court, lounging and conference areas, and new student and other program spaces. New outdoor deck and patio spaces focus on the view opportunities and further facilitate connection of the building to the campus.
The new facility will feature extensive shading and sun control/natural daylighting. A pyramid skylight will become a focal point for the building and the campus, back-dropping a new outdoor amphitheater.
