The renovation and addition to Ginnings Elementary School has created a playful atmosphere intended to stimulate creativity in children. This fun environment provides different experiences throughout the building and inspires an excitement about learning. Color-coded stripes on the walls distinguish different grade levels.
The educational program requirements included a new activity center, cafeteria, stage, music rooms and additional classrooms. The office area needed improvement, as did the overall circulation. To address that need, the design creates a major corridor spine and relocates the main office at the center.
Traffic flow also was improved to reduce congestion. Bus pickup was moved to the west side of the site to avoid conflict with parent pickup on the east side. A circular drive complementing the curvilinear roof was created in front of the main office to create a safe, pedestrian-friendly entrance.
