This project called for combining a college library with a city library, yet maintain separate identities. Thw two are connected to a physical education/recreation center with a public indoor swimming pool and senior center.
The inviting main entrance is a vaulted canopy leading to a rotunda point between library complex and wellness/recreation center. A complementary vaulted ceiling separates the city and college library, crowns a shared computer lab and culminates at a reading area having natural north light. The rotunda provides easy access to senior center, long-distance learning classrooms and community conference room. The entire building is equipped with the latest computer/video/audio technology, and serves as the center for community and college long-distance learning.
Mechanical and electrical distribution systems were designed for flexibility, multi-use options, and separation of chlorinated pool, gymnasium and library air requirements.
